The Research and Development Club successfully organized a Faculty Development Program (FDP) titled “Writing Research Articles Using LaTeX Tool”. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from academicians and researchers across diverse disciplines, including Physics, Chemistry, Computer Science, Information Science, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Mathematics. A total of 37 participants attended, representing various institutions.
Inauguration
The FDP commenced with an inaugural session graced by the Heads of Departments and Dr. Parameshwara M. C. from the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering addressed the gathering, encouraging both participants and organizers to make the most of the FDP.
Dr. Namratha V., from the Department of Civil Engineering, delivered the welcome address. She outlined the objectives and motivation behind organizing the FDP and introduced the resource person, Dr. Suneeta.
FDP Highlights
The FDP was divided into two sessions:
• Introduction and Lecture Session
• Hands-on Practical Session
Dr. Suneeta began the session with an engaging talk that introduced participants to LaTeX, emphasizing its distinction from traditional word processing software. She highlighted the advantages of LaTeX for creating technical documents and explained why it is a preferred tool for researchers. The session also covered an overview of the key features preparation of LaTeX document, preparing participants for the practical exercises.
The second session focused on hands-on training, where participants worked with Overleaf, a popular online LaTeX editor. Dr. Suneeta guided the attendees through the creation of a simple document, demonstrated the use of essential LaTeX tools, and showcased examples from the Overleaf template gallery. The session also included troubleshooting common issues, ensuring participants gained confidence in using LaTeX for their research needs.
Conclusion
The FDP concluded with a Vote of Thanks by Dr. Mujeeb Pasha, who expressed gratitude to the institute authorities, faculty members, and research scholars for their unwavering support. Special thanks were extended to the Principal, Vice Principal of Vemana Institute of Technology and the Heads of Departments for their encouragement and cooperation.
The participants provided positive feedback, appreciating the blend of lectures and hands-on training. The FDP proved to be an enriching experience, equipping attendees with valuable skills to enhance their research productivity.
We look forward to organizing similar FDPs in the future to foster academic and research excellence.
